The malaria free town of Addo lies in the beautiful Sundays River Valley and is home to the world famous Addo Elephant National Park, Addo Citrus and the Addo Roses. The Greater Addo area is world renowned for its citrus fruit production and is South Africa's largest producer of lemons. The Colonial on Arundel is a beautiful Addo citrus farm, with wonderful Addo Rose gardens and an abundance of bird life. Addo is watched over by the Zuurberg Mountain Range, which offers some spectacular hiking and horse riding trails.
The Addo Elephant National Park was founded after eleven Addo Elephants were saved from the brink of extinction in 1931, after continuous clashes between farmers and elephants threatened their survival. Today the Addo Elephant Park is home to Cape Buffalo, Black Rhino, Lion, Leopard, a range of antelope species and the rare flightless dung beetle. The Addo Elephant National Park is South Africa only ‘Big Seven’ nature reserve, with the inclusion of the southern right whale and great white shark after the Greater Addo Park extended to the Indian Ocean.
Situated just over 45 minutes drive from the Port Elizabeth airport, the magnificently diverse Addo area offers a wide variety of wildlife experiences, natural landscapes, outdoor adventures and cultural experiences. Private Game Reserves such as Shamwari and Schotia Safari Private Reserve are also found in the Addo area offering guests wonderful day trip excursions, or guests can ride or walk with the Addo Elephant Back Safaris elephants. Addo is a must visit for outdoor and wildlife enthusiasts.
